Phytoindication of genotoxic deterioration of polluted environment.

We present examples of genotoxicity bioindication of various types of harmful factors, e.g. PCBs, VOCs, heavy metals, by SO2, NOx air pollution in the vicinity of an incinerator and a refinery plant in Bratislava, and an aluminum plant in Žiar nad Hronom using tetrad and microspore analyses. Besides the fresh material we also used herbarium specimens to reconstruct the history of the area around the aluminium plant retrospectively. We discovered significant levels of genotoxical deterioration present in this location. At the Bratislava incinerator location we found genotoxicity levels approximately three times higher than at the control area.
